Problems With WWE, Matt Morgan A Star?, And What On Earth Is TNA Doing By Adding More Titles!

Okay, back again everyone. This time to talk a bit about the past couple of TNA shows and my thoughts right now. Not necessarily reviews, just a couple thoughts. Before that and before I really get heated and begin running down what for the most part I wish to discuss (that being TNA), I first want to address WWE. I am just tired of it. Plain and simple, I’m tired. I have said more than enough about WWE in the past and things don’t change. People know how I feel, people who have followed me and my opinions know how I feel. I have been saying the same stuff for years now and I am completely over it. I can no longer get behind that product because I disagree with their philosophy (which I have discussed much more in depth in the past and don’t have the patience for right now). I feel as though I could stop watching completely for the next year, then tune in again and not miss a beat. It’s the same old crap over and over, rehashed and done again and again. They view their audience as if they are all a bunch of mindless sheep, underestimate their fans, and have no interest whatsoever in creating cutting edge/gripping stories and/or characters. They are attempting to appease the lowest common denominator and not the majority of us hardcore fans of the sport. Well, I’m tired of it! This is not to say that I will refrain from ever talking about the WWE product again because I always get suckered into it (heck, I may very well do so in my next blog), this is just me venting some. I am a pissed off fan, I can’t help it. I used to watch wrestling back when it was actually good. Back when, get this, back when it was actually cool to be a wrestling fan and back when wrestling was mainstream! You didn’t have to give away a million dollars in order for people to watch your show, you didn’t have to bring in a celebrity guest host each week. Guys like Steve Austin, the Rock, the Undertaker, HBK, Bret Hart were all good enough feature attractions. They didn’t need a sideshow, just good storylines.

Moving along now though, I will be discussing TNA for the remainder of this blog. One of the things I believe in more than anything else is the importance of creating new stars. It is evident that TNA is attempting to do just that with Matt Morgan. At last nights TNA Impact we found out that he’ll be one of the three guys participating in a four way against Kurt Angle for the TNA World Heavyweight Title at No Surrender. While watching Impact these past two weeks I have thought to myself that though TNA has been booking this entire Matt Morgan thing horribly wrong they have still managed to somehow have him come off as credible. And folks, credible is all you have to be in wrestling. You must be credible, the people must believe in you. Morgan has that look you need in order to be successful. That is not to say that you must be 6’5” and 250 in order to get over, no way. That is to say though, that being 6’5” (even bigger in Matt’s case) and 250 can very well be enough to get you over. Case and point, look at someone like Batista or Goldberg. It’s called a marketable look. In wrestling you are marketing your product (your wrestling, your wrestlers, and everything about your show) to the fans, your consumer. How you choose to do so is important, and having someone with that look is a step in the right direction for you. Basically all I’m saying is that he looks like he is where he belongs. I am buying into Matt Morgan as a legit contender. Say all you want about his “work”, that means nothing.

Next up, lets talk about the TNA Knockouts. Though it hasn’t actually been all that long it sure as hell seems like ancient history now when you think back to those great matches and feud Awesome Kong and Gail Kim were having. They were stealing the show nearly every night and arguably putting on some of the very best matches in the business at the time. Today though, we have ODB and Cody Deaner. Yes, I said ODB and Cody Deaner. The Knockouts division is a disgrace. The TNA Knockouts Championship is becoming a not so funny joke and they have decided to add even more titles to this poor division, adding Knockout Tag Team Titles. I really believe (no, I KNOW) that this is a big mistake, adding more titles completely waters down the Knockouts division in my opinion. A division which is already watered down and needs either more talent or better booking to simply make one title mean something. TNA has an extremely hard time getting people over as it is and now they have to put time and effort into getting some pointless Knockouts Tag Team Championship over, taking away from more important things they should be doing. All of this is just plain stupid if you ask me. TNA has bigger fish to fry, they should know better.

I want to wait until after UFC 102 to talk about Lashley because I plan to discuss my thoughts on his MMA career thus far and then talk about UFC 102 and some other MMA. Until then, take it easy.

My Thoughts On The Kurt Angle Situation And What TNA Should Have Done

Hello everyone, welcome to my new blog space. I finally decided to get a domain of my very own and have also decided to start blogging again. I know that I have been away for a while now but I really hope to hear from all of my old readers once again here at www.wrestlingandmmanow.com. I am committed to blogging more often, writing has always been a passion of mine and I have always enjoyed the feedback more than anything. I won’t get into why I took the time off, that is neither here nor there, I am just going to pick right back up as if I never left and talk some wrestling. This time around though, with this new blog of mine, I will also be discussing MMA. I am just as knowledgeable in MMA as I am in professional wrestling, I can easily speak on both and share my opinion of both sports (yes, I consider professional wrestling a sport dammit!). Today though, I plan to discuss Kurt Angle as that has been getting a lot of coverage.

To start things out I must say that I am a huge fan of Kurt’s work, he may very well be the best worker in the business today. At the same time, he does seem to have some issues outside of the squared circle. Most people reading this likely know of him being arrested in Pittsburgh this past weekend. If you are unaware though, allow me to fill you in. Angle was arrested outside of a local Starbucks where he was allegedly stalking fellow TNA wrestler Rhaka Khan, his girlfriend, thus violating a restraining order she had taken out against him. Not only that, but Angle was said to have been in possession of illegal HGH (Human Growth Hormone) and driving with a suspended license. Angle’s attorney at least claims he had a prescription for the HGH but according to reports nothing has been verified. Khan claims as well that Kurt had stolen her cellphone and was deleting pictures of what she claims to be “abuse.” Much of the details there, at least from what I have been able to gather, are quite vague and sketchy to say the least. I do not recall that being in the police report.

Moving along though, this is not the first outlandish incident Kurt has been involved in. He seems to have issue after issue pop up. Think about it, really think about it, how truly bad must Kurt have been in WWE for them to essentially fire him given how starved WWE is for talent? I don’t believe we were ever given the full story there. Of course though, not long after his WWE release, TNA signs Angle. I honestly wasn’t surprised one bit by that, he was one of the biggest names in the sport. He was given a massive push right away and is basically the face of TNA now. The question I have is this though, should Angle continue to be the face of TNA or should TNA take some action? Or at least do something? I mean for crying out loud, the man is arrested on Saturday and on Sunday he retains his TNA World Heavyweight Championship on PPV. Should TNA have taken the strap off of him, should he have been suspended, should some punishment been levied against him? These are the questions that need to be asked. Is TNA making a mistake, are they setting bad precedents? You can look at this a number of ways. If you want my opinion, I think TNA needed to take a stand. I am about as big a Kurt Angle fan as you’ll find but TNA without question should have taken the strap off him at Sunday’s PPV. It’s not as if the strap even means that much right now, but that’s another debate for another day (you’ll hear about that later). I just can’t stand superstars doing whatever they want and getting away with it simply because of their name. TNA is still an up and coming company, growing each and every day, they need to be setting better precedents in my opinion. I just don’t think they know how big of a mistake they are making, mark my words. I mean, God forbid they end up like WWE one day…
